ISLANDING is the New Paradigm Regional Grid Resilience Strategy & Plan
• Electric utilities refer to residential grid-tie solar power arrays as distributed generators (DG).
• Refers to solar panel producing and distributing electrical power back into the utility grid.
• DG generator continues to feed circuit with power, even after electric utility grid has been cut off.
• Possible danger threat to utility workers, who may not realize a circuit is still "live" while work on it.
• Distributed generators detect islanding and immediately stop feeding the utility lines with power.
• Grid-tied solar power systems required a gridtie inverter with an anti-islanding sensor function to shut-off power when outage occurs.

RESILIENT CITIES ACADEMY
It is not possible predict the next environmental or man made catastrophic event. However, it is critical that we attempt to control and manage how we prepare for and respond to these challenges . We can help make our cities better at adapting to the shocks and stresses of disasters and transform them into opportunities for growth. RCA is setting-up the 1000 Resilient Cities Academy in 2015. The goal is to is have 10,000 members by 2017. Selected cities receive:
RESILIENT CITIES NET PARTNERS (TBD prospective)

You are invited to join the Resilient Cities Academy at a critical moment-in-time. The ongoing challenges of viable government programs; the lack of community services; pervasive household economic hardship; and acute weather-generated disasters spawn crisis-after-crisis across the country and around the globe.
We are here to help all those interested in creating standards: individuals, communities, schools, businesses, non-profits, institutions and related multi-level government agencies in more effective planning and better preparedness to respond, survive and even thrive in spite of both natural and man-made catastrophic disasters. |
The Resilient Cities Academy also offers a curated news site; interactive guides; apps; online courses and training events. The Guides cover all the key important aspects of certified Chief Resilience Officer and and Resilient Cities pre, during and post disaster resilience training.
We review state-of-the-art disaster preparation and planning; incident management, best practices and global standards-based response programs. We see personal, community, business, institutional and governmental self-sustainability as the prime directive. |
We advocate and support open source solutions; industry standard best practices; and local community-based rules and programs. Our products and services support individual basic training to advanced train-the-trainer certification.
From food, water and safety, to shelter and energy—informed resilience incorporates needs-based preparation and sustainable solutions. Disaster preparation from earthquakes and hurricanes, to total power grid failure. Resilience is an individual and community mindset and a conscious intentional lifestyle. |
Resilient Cities combine preparation with the latest advances in technology and education so that
Cities can maintain and even increase their citizens' quality of life and standard of living. • Preparedness is both uniquely an individual and a shared responsibility. CRO MENTORS support the active involvement of everyone from Teachers - to retired Architects and Engineers & Programmers as CRO MENTORS in emergency preparedness and green survival programs.
• Families and neighbors, schools and businesses, government and NGOs working on preparedness together are the first line of Resilient City defense in keeping a local community operating at the highest levels of informed public safety. • Protecting citizens form harm and having an in place resilient response best practices and infrastructure can now be seen as a Resilient City fiduciary responsibility that local governments have to their citizens. • At the same time each of us has a similar if not greater ethical social responsibility to become an informed resilient first survivor for our selves, our families, our friends and community-at-large. |
